Phone number enrichment adds a direct mobile to contacts you already have: a CRM export, a trade show list, a sheet of target accounts your reps want to call. In Scalelist you bring names and companies, and you get back a mobile for every person it finds, at 20 credits per mobile found and 0 for a miss.
Below: what your file needs for the best match rate, five ways to run the enrichment, what each returned field means, what 500 contacts cost, how to check line type and what to clear before anyone dials.
What is phone number enrichment?
Phone number enrichment is the process of adding phone numbers, ideally direct mobiles, to contact records that already exist, using details you have such as name, company and email. It fills the phone column of a list you own, instead of building a new list.
That makes it one step in finding business contact information, not prospecting. If you still need the people, start with the Scalelist Lead Finder, which returns new leads from a one-sentence description. For every other way to get a number, see how to find direct dial phone numbers.
What your list needs for the best match rate
The more identity signals a row carries, the more precisely Scalelist can match the right person. Scalelist’s API reference and MCP tool descriptions list them; here they are from strongest to weakest.

- A known work email is enough on its own in the API, and it makes any match more precise when combined with other fields.
- A full name plus the company website is the standard input. A domain points to one company; a name like “Summit Logistics” can match several.
- Job title and city are optional, and they separate two people with the same name at the same company or in different regions.

Before you upload, remove duplicate people, write bare domains (northwindfab.com, not a full URL), and update the company for anyone who has changed jobs. A person who left the company is the most common reason a good-looking row comes back Not found.
Five ways to add mobiles to a list
You can run the same mobile enrichment from five places, and each one charges the same 20 credits per mobile found. Pick the one closest to where your list lives.

1. Upload a CSV or Excel file
Open the Mobile Finder in the Scalelist app, upload your file and match its columns to first name, last name, and company name or website. Scalelist works through every row and marks each one Found or Not found. Export the result as a CSV for your dialer, or push it to HubSpot. Product details are on the Scalelist Mobile Finder page.
2. Enrich contacts already in your CRM
HubSpot is the native route: export the contacts with no mobile, enrich the file, then push the leads back with field mapping. Scalelist updates existing contacts matched on email and companies matched on domain instead of creating duplicates.
For Salesforce, Pipedrive and other CRMs, bring the results back with a CSV import, the Scalelist Zapier app and its Mobile Finder action, or the API. Overwrite rules and refresh cadence are covered in our guide to CRM enrichment.
3. Call the API
POST /api/v1/phone/find enriches one person. POST /api/v1/phone/bulk takes up to 100 people per request, runs in the background and posts results to your webhook_url, or you poll the job. Authenticate with an X-Api-Key header.

Send an Idempotency-Key header with each batch: a retry with the same key and body within 24 hours returns the original task, with no extra credit. More on the mobile number API.
4. Ask Claude or ChatGPT over the MCP server
Connect the Scalelist MCP server (https://mcp.scalelist.com/mcp) in Claude, ChatGPT or any MCP client, attach your CSV and ask for the mobiles in plain English. Same credits as the app.
5. Fill gaps while you browse, with the Chrome extension
For the few accounts that matter this week, the Scalelist Chrome extension finds verified emails and mobile numbers on company websites and profile pages, and saves the person to a list or a CSV. It costs 1 credit per lead extracted and 20 per mobile found.
What comes back: the returned fields explained
Every enriched row keeps your original columns and gains a result, and the Found rows gain a number. Here is what each field means and what it cost.

- Mobile: the number Scalelist found, with the country code, in international format (+1 followed by 10 digits for the US). It can be the person’s mobile or a direct dial.
- Result: Found (20 credits) or Not found (no number returned, 0 credits). A 6-row file with 4 mobiles found costs 80 credits.
- Your own fields: first name, company and anything else you uploaded stay on the row. Through the API, your
customobject is echoed back so you can match each result to its CRM record.
On a real list in the app, the number sits in the same row as the verified email, stored in E.164 format with no spaces.

How to check line type: mobile or landline?
A found number can be a mobile or a desk line, so check line type before a number goes into a dialer. Outside North America the prefix usually tells you; in the US it does not.

- Read the prefix outside the US. Most countries give mobiles their own range, such as +82 10 in South Korea (see our South Korea B2B mobile numbers page). Our research on mobile number coverage by country lists the mobile prefixes for the UK, Germany, Australia and Brazil.
- Run a line-type lookup for US and Canadian numbers. NANPA, the US numbering administrator, notes that numbers are ported between wireline and wireless carriers, so the area code tells you nothing. A carrier lookup API such as Twilio Lookup returns a type per number: mobile, landline, fixed VoIP, non-fixed VoIP, toll free and more.
- Treat the first dial as a check. Log wrong person, switchboard and desk-line answers the same day, and remove them from the next block.
Why the effort pays: mobiles and desk lines connect at different rates, and in the US they carry different consent rules. The full comparison is in direct dial vs mobile vs switchboard.
What mobile enrichment costs for 500 contacts
Mobile enrichment in Scalelist costs 20 credits per mobile found, so a 500-contact list costs at most 10,000 credits: one month of the Scaler 10K plan at 349 USD. Every miss lowers the bill.
To estimate the real number, apply the phone found rates from our 8-provider benchmark to 500 contacts. This is an estimate, not a quote: the benchmark list was founders and CEOs, and your contacts may differ.

| Where your 500 contacts are | Benchmark phone found rate | Mobiles found (estimate) | Credits (estimate) | Value at the Scaler 10K rate |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| North America | 87% | 435 | 8,700 | about 304 USD |
| Latin America | 85% | 425 | 8,500 | about 297 USD |
| APAC | 75% | 375 | 7,500 | about 262 USD |
| EMEA | 73% | 365 | 7,300 | about 255 USD |
| Worst case (every row found) | 100% | 500 | 10,000 | 349 USD |
At the Scaler 10K rate one mobile costs about 0.70 USD; on Scaler 20K it is about 0.65 USD. Unused credits roll over up to 2x your monthly allocation while you are subscribed, so a smaller list next month uses what is left.
Upload 20 names you already know and see how many mobiles come back: misses are free, and new accounts get 20 credits.
Get 20 credits to test itWhat to clear before anyone dials
A mobile on your list is not permission to autodial it. Before the first call, settle three questions: how you will dial, whose number it is, and which country’s rules apply.
- How you dial. Under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), calls to a cell number made with an autodialer, a prerecorded voice or an AI voice need prior express consent, written consent for telemarketing. A rep dialing by hand is not caught by that rule.
- Whose number it is. The FTC exempts most business-to-business sales calls from the Do Not Call rules, but a personal mobile that belongs to a business buyer is a grey area. Keep your own do-not-call list and honor every opt-out.
- When you call. Stay between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. in the person’s local time. Florida and Oklahoma set 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. for covered calls.
- Consent-based autodialing. If you do autodial with consent, check numbers against the Reassigned Numbers Database so you do not reach someone who inherited the number.
Outside the US the rules change by country: see how to find a prospect’s mobile number legally and our overview of B2B cold calling laws. Scalelist operates under the GDPR and Singapore’s PDPA, and contact data you upload is never added to its database.
Troubleshooting phone number enrichment
When a run disappoints, the cause is usually the input, the market or the tool that opens the file. Check these first.
Many rows came back Not found
Look at the company column: blanks, typos, parent-company names and old employers are the usual suspects. Add the work email where you have it, and a job title or city for common names, then run only the Not found rows again.
The number reaches a switchboard or the wrong person
Check line type first. If it is a company’s main line you wanted, see how to find a business phone number instead. Log wrong numbers so no one dials them twice.
The plus sign disappeared in Excel or the CRM
Spreadsheets can treat +14155550142 as a number and drop the plus or switch to scientific notation. Import the phone column as text, and map it to a phone-type property in your CRM.
The API returns 401 or 402
401 means the X-Api-Key header is missing or wrong. 402 means your balance cannot cover the batch; top up or split the batch, and resend with the same Idempotency-Key so nothing is charged twice.
Phone number enrichment tools compared
Scalelist is not the cheapest phone number enrichment tool per mobile, but it charges nothing for a miss and returned the most phone numbers in every region of our benchmark. Here is how four alternatives compare on the same fields, from their pricing pages as of September 2026.
| Tool | Entry plan, billed monthly | Cost per mobile at entry plan | Charged when no number is found | Phone found in our benchmark (NA / APAC) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Scalelist | 29 USD, 500 credits | 1.16 USD (20 credits) | No | 87% / 75% |
| Apollo | 65 USD per seat, 2,500 credits | 0.21 USD (8 credits) | Not for Apollo’s own data; some connected-source lookups charge | 50% / 8% |
| Lusha | 49.90 USD, 400 credits | 0.62 USD (5 credits) | CSV misses free; API requests cost at least 1 credit | not tested |
| FullEnrich | 29 USD, 500 credits | 0.58 USD (10 credits) | No | not tested |
| LeadMagic | 99 USD, 5,000 credits | 0.10 USD (5 credits) | No | 64% / 16% |
- Apollo: CSV, CRM and API enrichment on Basic. Watch for per-seat pricing and no refunds on mobile credits.
- Lusha: bulk enrichment on Starter, CSV and API on Pro. Watch for API calls that cost a credit when nothing comes back.
- FullEnrich: CSV, API, HubSpot and Zapier. Watch for monthly plan credits that expire after 3 months.
- LeadMagic: CSV, API and MCP, no native CRM listed. Watch for no free plan and coverage it calls strongest in the US.
The benchmark is our own test, with raw data on the comparison page. Run 100 contacts you already know through any two tools before you buy.
FAQ
What is phone number enrichment?
Phone number enrichment adds phone numbers, ideally direct mobiles, to contacts you already have, using their name, company and email. In Scalelist you upload a list, connect your CRM or call the API, and each row comes back Found or Not found. You pay 20 credits per mobile found and nothing for a miss.
What information do I need to find a mobile number?
Through the API, a work email on its own is enough, and it improves precision when combined with other fields. Without an email, give a full name plus the company website or company name. Add job title and city when the name is common. Keep the company current: people who changed jobs are the most common misses.
How much does phone number enrichment cost?
20 credits per mobile found in Scalelist, and 0 when no number is found. A 500-contact list costs at most 10,000 credits, which is one month of the Scaler 10K plan at 349 USD. Plans start at 29 USD a month for 500 credits, and new accounts get 20 free credits with no credit card required.
Does phone number enrichment return mobiles or landlines?
Scalelist returns the person’s mobile or direct dial, not the company switchboard. Some found numbers can still be desk lines, so check line type before autodialing. Outside the US the prefix usually tells you; for US numbers, use a carrier lookup, because mobile and landline numbers share area codes.
Can I enrich HubSpot or Salesforce contacts with mobile numbers?
Yes. For HubSpot, export the contacts, enrich the file in Scalelist, and push the leads back with field mapping; existing contacts are matched on email. Salesforce has no native Scalelist integration yet, so bring results back with a CSV import, the Zapier Mobile Finder action or the REST API.
Is it legal to call the numbers I get from phone enrichment?
In the US, a person dialing by hand can usually call a business contact’s mobile; autodialed, prerecorded or AI-voice calls to a cell phone need prior express consent. Stay within 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. local time and honor opt-outs. Other countries set their own rules. This is not legal advice.
