UBA America is the only sub-Saharan African bank with an operational banking license in the U.S. We’re based in New York City, a global financial center and clearing hub for the U.S. Dollar.

UBA America was established in 1982 as a representative office in New York and was granted a federal banking license to operate as a federal branch in 1984.

The federal banking license confers on UBA America the same powers and privileges as a U.S. national bank, as well as the same duties and limitations. It is subject to rigorous examination by two regulators known for their comprehensive oversight: the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC).

UBA America is a branch of UBA Plc headquartered in Lagos, The Federation of Nigeria. It is a member bank of the U.S. Federal Reserve System.
